COVID-19 Changes to property purchases at Level 3

With the country now moving to Level 3 from today we thought you would appreciate knowing the various implications for the purchasing and selling of properties.

  • 1) The Government has allowed people to move into any new home they are purchasing following settlement. Buyers and sellers can thus occupy and vacate properties provided they do this safely.

  • 2) Whilst open homes are still not permitted under Level 3 private viewings are now allowed. The land agent, vendor and prospective purchaser must follow precautions to make sure these viewings are done safely.

  • 3) With private viewings of properties now permitted Registered Valuers are again able to complete valuations for banks. Building inspectors are also able to visit properties to complete building inspections for clients. Valuers and building inspectors will need to adhere to strict precautions during their visits to properties.

With these changes taking effect from today the majority of people can now purchase and sell residential property in New Zealand. We hope you find this information helpful. Stay safe and well meantime.

Best wishes
